Why We Have This DREAM, and Why We Stand Against Racism
We've had enough. As we write this another black man is gunned down. 7 shots in the back. If he survives, he most certainly will be paralyzed. It's ironic - our society is paralyzed. Last night at the Republican convention, Nikki Haley claimed that this is not a racist country. What's she on? Wasn't our society built on racism? The indentured servitude of an inferior race that could have as easily come from the pet store instead of Africa. A noble people brought to our shores to pick our cotton, work our mines and railroads, and bear the children of white slave owners - and we still profile them to this day while herding them into our prisons. Even Covid has it out for the black man, the brown man, the elderly, those who are under and un-insured. We'd call it convenient but you may think we are being sarcastic.
We've had enough of anti-Semitism. We've had enough of ageism, latino hate, Asians who walk in fear because some idiot has called Covid the 'Asian Flu'. Gay and gender-binary children who are ridiculed and bullied into suicide. We are simply sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Enough. Enough. We need to stand together. We need to speed out. That's what DREAM is about. Please share your voice and speak out. It's easy and it's so effective.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment
To be free.
